From critically acclaimed author Cindy Pon comes an edge-of-your-seat sci-fi thriller, set in a near-future Taipei plagued by pollution, about a group of teens who risk everything to save their city.
Jason Zhou survives in a divided society where the elite use their wealth to buy longer lives. The rich wear special suits, protecting them from the pollution and viruses that plague the city, while those without suffer illness and early deaths. Frustrated by his city’s corruption and still grieving the loss of his mother who died as a result of it, Zhou is determined to change things, no matter the cost.
With the help of his friends, Zhou infiltrates the lives of the wealthy in hopes of destroying the international Jin Corporation from within. Jin Corp not only manufactures the special suits the rich rely on, but they may also be manufacturing the pollution that makes them necessary.
Yet the deeper Zhou delves into this new world of excess and wealth, the more muddled his plans become. And against his better judgment, Zhou finds himself falling for Daiyu, the daughter of Jin Corp’s CEO. Can Zhou save his city without compromising who he is, or destroying his own heart?

*MY THOUGHTS*

When I saw the cover of this I knew I wanted to read it. I didn't know much about it, just that it was gorgeous and so far everyone was talking about it.I've never read anything by Cindy Pon and I hardly read Science Fiction, but I still decided to give it a go.
Pollution has overtaken Taipei. There are a group of teens who are trying their best to save Taipei and its people from the smog and pollution. But society is divided between those who can afford to stay safe with personalized suits and those who can't. Until Jason and his friends decide to fight for those with no voice.
Now let's remember how much I don't like Science Fiction. I was never a fan of science so science fiction doesn't normally interest me. But this time I was hooked from the beginning. I think because I was so terrified that something like this can actually happen. Especially with the way the world is right now. But I feel like I need to be prepared in case something like this does happen so I needed to see what Jason and his crew did. The plot was believable and kept me interested the entire time.
I also loved the writing  style.LikI said this is my first book from Pon and it most definitely won't be my last. I loved the way she basically put me in Taipei by describing the culture, the food, the atmosphere. Just everything. It was all written in a way I coud say I really felt like I was in the future in Taipei.
I also really loved that Jason wasn't your average hero. It's been so long since I have read a story where the hero wasn't clearly defined. I don't want to give it away too much, but it was a good twist from what usually happens in a story. I was so glad to see that Pon wasn't scared to go there and it made me super excited to read everything else she wrote. I need to know if her other characters are similar.
I'm not normally a fan of science fiction, but this one definitely made me feel different about the subject. I can see this book becoming the staple for me in science fiction!
Overall, I give this

(There will be no quotes because I'm honeymooning!!!)
